In order to meet the changing labour market conditions and establish sustainable economies, international VET for sustainable development has an important role to play. This is because it can foster the skills needed for sustainable work and combine economic, social and ecological responsibility. To achieve this, however, a design framework for international vocational training for sustainable development must be created.

To ensure this, Bundesinstituts für berufliche Bildung (BIBB) initiated an online specialist seminar on sustainability in the context of potentials of international vocational education and training cooperation (iBBZ) on November 15, 2022.

Based on impulses from science and research and examples of good practice, more than 50 participants from a wide range of countries shared ideas on the chances and challenges of sustainability in vocational education and training – in national as well as international dialogues.

Silke Steinberg and Dr. Rüdiger Klatt (FIAP e.V.) had the opportunity to share their experiences from two BMBF projects GRÆDUCATION and Future4VET and demonstrated how “green” VET can serve as a driver for green and social transition in Europe.

The exchange with the international guests was inspiring and provides a good basis for the constructive further development of international vocational training for sustainability.
