Virtual Round Table with the teachers of EPA.S schools
Since the autumn of 2018, the green training for skilled worker for fixed activities (electrician), created in the GRÆDUCATION project, has been running in the EPA.S schools throughout Greece. Last week, the teachers who teach this training had the opportunity to share their teaching experiences with the project team and each other. Of course, the focus was also on how the pandemic affected teaching practice last year. In Greece, too, the vocational schools with their workshops remained closed for most of last year, and in the companies, training came to a standstill. Greek teachers have reacted very creatively to the sudden digitization demands on teaching and the teaching materials used, shifting content and setting other priorities. For example, some teachers dealt more intensively than before with the topic of the required soft skills and were able to draw on materials created in the project on the topics of entrepreneurship and employability. However, everyone agreed that practical teaching, especially with regard to the new technical green skills, could not be properly implemented due to the corona-related circumstances. Nevertheless, the project team was very positively surprised by the positive engagement and creativity with which the teachers implemented green projects with the students despite everything. For example, there were solar-powered elevators and vehicles that were created in the courses, the topic of biomass played a major role and it is also impressive how intensively the EPA.S schools already cooperate with sustainable companies.
The workshop was part of a series of evaluation activities that should lead to further optimization of the cooperation and to position the topic of green skills even more centrally in Greek curricula.
